Hermes Arevalo, P.E.
Manager EV & DER Planning
Oklahoma Gas and Electric
Hermes Arevalo, P.E. leads OG&E’s Electric Vehicle and Distributed Energy Resource Planning Department, coordinating with various groups to prepare for new technology integration. Since joining OG&E in 2001 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma, he has worked in distribution design, planning, and transmission operations. Hermes is a Registered Professional Engineer in the States of Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Hermes will be presenting “Oklahoma Gas and Electric’s Utility Scale Battery Pilot Project.” He will share insights from its first-hand pilot of a 500 kW / 664 kWh energy storage system, designed to rapidly build internal knowledge around planning, deployment, and operations of flexible grid storage technologies. The session highlights how the pilot tested applications like grid stabilization, voltage regulation, microgrid operation, and EV fast charging load mitigation to assess technical, financial, and operational viability. Attendees will learn about lessons from the research and testing, including planning, integration challenges, use case outcomes, and strategies for scaling to larger energy storage deployments.
